KTC offers an Advanced Diploma program aimed at pre-service trainees wishing to become primary and junior secondary school teachers in Kiribati. KTC has the responsibility to recruit the best, and most committed, competent and passionate teachers through a fair and transparent procedure from a pool of mature-aged people, also those from the high school and tertiary graduates’ categories.
Students are selected for February commencement (and sometimes there is a mid-year commencement program)
Recruitment groups and processes
• Mature aged: mature test, interview, English language entrance examination (need B1 English)
• School graduates: interview, English language entrance examination (need B1 English)
• Tertiary graduates: interview, English language entrance examination (need B1 English)

Based on the English Language Entrance Examination test results, KTC determines the number of sponsored and non-sponsored teacher trainees to be recruited for undertaking a three year teaching training program; a requirement for qualified teachers in all schools in Kiribati.
